The Qualitons, who have attracted a lot of international attention in recent years, were the first Hungarian band to be invited to the iconic KEXP studio, one of America’s hottest new music discovery radio stations; they have toured across Western-Europe; they have been regulars at major European showcase festivals and were invited to the SXSW festival in Texas, where they won the JanSport contest. With three albums, a smash-hit EP (Kexek) and a double sold-out album release gig, they announced their disbandment at the peak of their career in the spring of 2022.
Fortunately, the story didn’t end here, though. The band has always primarily functioned as a creative community so the members still came together in the rehearsal room without expectations, for the joy of making music. This is how The Qualitons was born again – with its current line-up (Levente Boros, Ernő Hock, Ádám Menyhei, Barna Szőke, András Weil), opening a new chapter in the band’s history. Their new album is scheduled for the spring of 2024 and is much more jam-based and cohesive in mood, despite the fact that it features afrobeat, hip-hop, electronic instrumentation and even ’80s crime-fighting serial music-like tracks. The album debutes live on 10th May for the very first time, tickets are already selling fast for the show.
